This is a fast, fun and fascinating method for creating silk screens from high contrast black & white photocopies. Develop and assemble screens in the morning, explore screening images in the afternoon with various media. 2 day class provides more time for in depth exploration of the printing process with a greater variety of mediums. Access to black & white photocopier required. NEWFANGLED SILK SCREENING Students create silk screens using screen filler with drawing fluid and the innovative thermofax method using riso film and black and white photocopies. Both methods have their advantages in the texture and types of images they produce. Paint, ink, dye, discharge agents, and glue are a few of the mediums that may then be screened onto cloth, clothing, paper or any even surface. These processes will enrich your surface design tool box. Access to black & white photocopier required. MAKING YOUR MARK Explore your creative side! Generate a healthy variety of original designs using improvisational methods. Students begin by working with found objects and black tempera paint to print and experiment with creating intuitive images & textures. The next process allows them to use paper, pen and ink to create images via pen & ink and gouache resist methods. On our final day after photocopying work, Thermofax silk screens are created and mounted on frames. Images are printed with paint, glue or other mediums on paper or fabric. This in an action packed 3 days! Access to a black & white photocopy required. DYEING THE RAINBOW Students dye a range of 24 fat quarters in colors across the rainbow spectrum. Low water immersion dyeing allows fabric to be easily dyed in 16 oz. deli containers, resulting in a feast of color! Overdyeing and manipulated resists will be covered on day two. Students need access to a washer and dryer from Day 1 to Day 2.
