THERMOFAX SILKSCREEN BASICS
1 Day

Discover this fast and fun method for creating silk screens using a high contrast photo copy and a special film. With screens provided in class, learn to print with a variety of media including paint, glues, discharge and other mediums. Students will have a wide variety of images from which to choose for a fun introduction to a captivating process.
Work clothes or apron needed. Supply fee $25.00.

 

SILKSCREEN IMPROV
3 days

Using a variety of silk screen and imaging techniques students will explore new and established methods for printmaking in this thoroughly enjoyable class. Fun and intuitive methods for generating original new images will inform your art making and further develop your creative toolbox. Permanent and impermanent methods covered will include using dye, paint, glue and other mediums.
Supply fee $30.00pp. Work clothes or apron needed.

 

 

WORD FOR WORD
1 Day

Do you love words on fabric? Learn to layer text on cloth to its best effect using silk screens and other tools provided in class. Students successfully screen the written word in paint or dye with a variety of type styles, fabrics and original effects including hand made stamps. Background and foreground images will be combined with text on fat quarter cotton, silk, rayon or linen fabrics.
Work clothes or apron needed. Supply fee $25.00pp.

 

DYEING THE RAINBOW
2 Days

Students dye a range of 24 fat quarters in colors across the rainbow spectrum. Low water immersion dyeing allows fabric to be easily dyed in 16 oz. deli containers, resulting in a feast of color!  Overdyeing and manipulated resists will be covered on day two. Students need access to a washer and dryer from Day 1 to Day 2.

 


LUSCIOUS LAYERS
2 Days

A wide variety of tools allow students to experiment with creating the illusion of depth on the cloth surface. Students will create layers of color, texture, and line leading to increased complexity and interest in 12 different fat cotton quarters. Monoprinting, Thermofax, found objects, stamps and color removal may all be
used to add interest to fabric.

SHEER BLISS - FUSING AND COLLAGE WITH SILK ORGANZA
2 - 3 Days

Learn the tricks of fusing sheer silk to dazzling effect in this collage quilt class for beginners and advanced students alike. The sheer nature of the cloth creates eye-catching value change and color blending when layering the airy translucent silk.

POP ART BLOCK ART QUILTS
1 Day

Recall Andy Warhol and other Pop Artists as you repeat one image to great effect for a stunning quilt. Students print quilt blocks using a thermofax silk screen and vividly contrasting cloth and colors. Careful color combinations produce spectacular results! Sewing machine required on Day 2 and/or Day 3.

DAY OF THE DEAD/CALACAS QUILT BLOCKS
2 Days

Celebrate the lives of the dearly departed as you create quilt blocks in the tradition of Mexico’s Day of the Dead Festival. Using premade screens, students print fanciful skeleton quilt blocks, set them in colorful sashing and borders which will keep you smiling in honor of the lives of those who have gone before you. Piece, layer, quilt and embellish to your hearts content! Sewing machine required both days.
Work clothes or apron needed, paint is permanent. Supply fee $25.00pp.
